Earlier this month, CTECH Consulting Group’s own Carl Fransen was interviewed as a cyber security expert on Global News. Speaking on the recent hack of Grey Eagle Resort and Casino, Carl added critical insight into the thinking of the cybercriminal, and how to protect against this type of hack.

Grey Eagle was recently victimized by a text message hack, which wrongfully informed VIP members that the resort would be closed due to “infestation and rodent problems.” The casino attempted to mitigate any damage to reputation by reaching out to VIP members on Twitter:

Dear loyal VIP text message followers, unfortunately, our account has been hacked. Please disregard all text messages you may have received.
– @GreyEagleResort

In the Global News report on the story, Carl explained the possible motivation for the hack, the perpetrator of which had not been identified at the time.

“The only type of gain that person would have in hacking a texting service would be to put out disinformation, or to cause damage to the reputation,” said Carl.

Later in the segment, Carl also added that to stop incidents like this from occurring, organizations like Grey Eagle Resort need two layers of security:

“It takes two people with two separate accesses and two different securities,” said Carl.
